Known as @onedayofwinter on Instagram, a Nicola is a UK blogger and author of Life after Baby Loss: A Companion Guide for Parents. Her candid reflections and insights of her son Winter’s life and raising her rainbow baby Raven deeply resonated with me in my loss and parenting journey, and I was honoured to speak with her and hear first hand her story. Whether you’ve lost someone or know someone who has, there are so many gems in this episode and I hope you enjoy.
Nicola shares about:
In this episode Amelia shares the arrival of Ava Rosemary, and chats with fellow loss mom and owner of The Enchanted Farm Sanctuary, Robin Birdsong. Robin lost her beautiful little boy, Danny, to SIDS in 2007. She fell into a depression so deep she couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t function. Her 10 year relationship with her fiancé, Danny’s father, fell apart. She lost everything, including the will to live. Then finally one night after months of despair she googled “bereaved mother” to find help. What popped up was totally unexpected, and altered the course of her life completely...
This is a powerful episode and a reminder that our deepest grief can also become our greatest ally and gift. Our suffering can help us become more empathetic and deepen our resolve to help others. Out of the darkest days of our life may come a spark of light that reveals truths that were hidden or we were blind to before. Pain can propel us towards living a life with more meaning and purpose.

Amelia interviews Dr Renae Thomas, an Australian-born lifestyle medicine doctor in Loma Linda, California. Loma Linda is one of five extensively researched Blue Zones, which are places in the world where people live longer and healthier than anywhere else on earth. The average lifespan of Loma Linda residents is 10 years longer than the US national average, and they are 10 times more likely to live to 100 than typical Americans. And they aren’t just living long either—these people are living into old age while remaining active and healthy, and often without medication or disability.
How is this possible? What role does nutrition play? We talk about this and so much more. Dr Thomas' enthusiasm is truly contagious and uplifting, and you’ll finish this episode feeling inspired and amazed at the power we have to transform our own lives.

In this episode, Amelia interviews sustainable fashion blogger and photo journalist Aditi Mayer @aditimayer. They talk about the true cost of fashion, from the exploitation on marginalized peoples to the environmental impact of fast fashion, and also the need for more true diversity and inclusion within the fashion world. Aditi shares some great tips and advice on how to find your unique style, thrifting and how to shop sustainably on a budget. Amelia and Aditi also discuss the differences between synthetic and natural fabrics, whether semi-synthetics and recycled polyester are sustainable choices, and what certifications to look for when trying to decide if something is truly eco-friendly, healthy and ethical.
But making a difference doesn’t have to end with our consumer choices - Aditi shares about her experience living at Her Farm in Nepal, a matriarchal organic farm created as a safe space for women coming out of domestic abuse. This experience opened up her mind to the questions: What does sustainability look like beyond consumerism? How can we become “green citizens”, not just “green consumers”? And what can we learn from indigenous communities about sustainability?
This episode is an eye-opener and valuable resource for anyone interested in living more sustainably and having a conscious wardrobe!
